Before I left AZ one of the farm cats had kittens, not an unusual occurrence, except that “momma” disappeared when the kittens were about 4 weeks old. I tried to feed them, they wouldn’t eat, so I tried to catch them… and I was only able to save 1, a little white and gray girl-kitty. Now, I did NOT want to keep this kitty… I know, you are laughing at me saying, suuuuuure, but I really did NOT want this cat! I had the 2 boys and the dawg… that is enough! Well, as I’m sure you’ve already guessed, I couldn’t find a home for her. And because she’s light colored I didn’t want to leave her there to be a farm kitty, ‘cuz light colored kitties just don’t fare very well on the farm… :-(
So since I wasn’t able to find a home for her before I transferred to NC she came with. Anyway… Niki, my “old man” had never been neutered… didn’t need to, he doesn’t go outside and there are no female kitties around… uh… until now. But I thought I had time!! Well wouldn’t you know it, as soon as we got moved into this house (and I didn’t have any extra $$) Niki discovered Smokey was a giiiiiirl… and we had kittens. :-( Dang it!!! I did manage to find homes for all of those kittens and Carrie took the 1 kitten that was pure white, like Niki, and we named him Junior. And *I* made plans for Smokey to go to the vet!!
But as luck would have it, I had to go to Ft. Worth TX for a month for work… and Smokey didn’t get to the vet in time (another long story). So we ended up with ANOTHER litter of kittens. :-(
The kittens were about 4 weeks old when Niki got very, very ill… he had contracted Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) for which there is no cure. The worse part is, Smokey was probably the carrier.
:-( Now AJ and I both agreed that we did NOT want to keep any of the kittens, regardless. I really don’t like having 3 cats, to be honest. So I took the kittens to a local pet store that hosts a “Adopt a Pet” area every weekend. By the end of Saturday on the 3rd weekend there, I had finally found homes for all of the 7 kittens… yes, this batch was 7!!... except for one… a white kitty just like Niki… yeah, you guessed it, I didn’t go back.
So here is our new addition and he still really hasn’t named himself, although we are calling him Beau for the moment. He is extremely mischievous, and I swear he is channeling his father because he has all the same mannerisms and habits… it’s rather spooky at times!
