all in all the trip went fairly smooth...
Well… unless you count that one “side-trip” to the dark-side of Birmingham…
My Dad HATED driving thru Birmingham… he’d go miles out of the way to avoid it. So here Mom and I are, talking and reminiscing about Pop, and a construction warning comes up that the fwy is closed and to detour… so we think we’re getting ahead and get off the fwy… I find this road that looked good on the map and instead we ended up driving thru some very Interesting parts of Birmingham!
And, of course, we needed gas in the UHaul… so we even got the adventure of filling up at a very “rickety” gas station! LOL! We figured that this was Pop’s revenge on us for laughing at him about Birmingham!
But really, those were our only major challenges, which we felt was pretty good luck! We pulled in to Carl & Carrie’s house about midnight Sunday night… AJ and Carl had gotten in on Friday so AJ was waiting for us.
